Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a female Bilingual Co-worker to join the team. This permanent, part time position, would provide the opportunity to work with Speech and Language Therapists in varied settings including clinic and school.  The post holder will work with children and young people across the age ranges 0-19 and their families. The successful applicant will utilise their interpreting and translation skills with their knowledge of their culture and language to develop and improve speech and language therapy services for Punjabi and Urdu speaking families in Ealing.

We welcome applicants with strong reading, writing and speaking skills in English and Punjabi and Urdu who have experience of working with children, young people and/or families. We can offer flexible working and support to further develop your skills.

Main duties of the job

You will work in close partnership with parents/carers and speech and language therapists to:-

  • Support with Punjabi and Urdu language assessment
  • Deliver language therapy in Punjabi and Urdu
  • Provide workshops for parents/carers in Punjabi and Urdu
  • Make phone calls to parents/carers in Punjabi and Urdu
  • Translate information and advice into Punjabi and Urdu
  • Support the team to develop their cultural awareness further
  • Create content for social media in Punjabi and Urdu
  • Build relationships with local Punjabi and Urdu community groups

As part of Ealing Services for Children with Additional Needs (ESCAN) the post will also involve regular collaborative working with other professionals such as teachers, health visitors and local charities.

You will be part of a forward thinking department that provides a range of services. We always strive to be innovative and put research into practice to improve families’ experiences of the services we offer. This will be an ideal opportunity for a Punjabi and Urdu speaker looking to develop their skills in children’s speech and language therapy who is passionate about making a difference to children and young people.

  • 1.     To engage in supervision and support from a qualified speech and language therapist
  • To assist in assessing CYP’s strengths and needs in their home language under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist and to give verbal and written feedback to the therapist.
  • To translate written advice and information materials in the CYP’s home language using appropriate technology.
  • To advise the Speech and Language Therapy team regarding cultural and linguistic issues which may impact on families/communities accessing and receiving an equitable service from Ealing Speech and Language Therapy.
  • To work with the Speech and Language Therapy team to promote and raise awareness of the service amongst community groups.
  • To support and participate in the induction and training of new co-workers.
