An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative individual to join the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Local Public Health Team working as a Principal Public Health Practitioner, fixed term/secondment until 31st March 2027.

This is a strategic role and the post holder will be expected to develop and maintain strategic partnerships across the statutory, voluntary, private and independent sectors to plan cohesively for population health and provide leadership and direction for partnership programmes and initiatives to promote health and well-being across all sectors. The team is committed to agile working and will involve home working alongside working in office sites across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

This post is a Fixed term/Secondment for 10 months until 31st March 2027 due to the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for :

  • leading, planning, implementing and evaluating public health programmes locally in line with local and national priorities agreed with Public Health Wales, the Health Board and strategic partners.
  • providing specialised advice and expertise on the development of public health strategy, policy and practice, with emphasis on population health and health protection.
  • professional leadership and management of staff and resources, as appropriate.
  • The post holder will work using significant autonomy seeking advice and guidance where necessary. Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. For more information, see ‘Welsh Language Guidance’ in the documents right at the bottom.
