Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated aseptic services technician to step into a key leadership position within our specialist chemotherapy aseptic preparation and dispensing unit. You will play a central role in delivering safe, high‑quality, and responsive pharmacy services to patients across our Cancer Centre and its satellite units, contributing directly to the care of individuals undergoing complex cancer treatments.

As part of a well‑established and forward‑thinking team, you’ll help drive service development, uphold quality standards, and support the continuous improvement of our aseptic operations.

This role is open to registered pharmacy and production technicians, who are registered with the GPhC and Science Council respectively. Please refer to the Person Specification for full details on the qualifications and experience required

Main duties of the job

The person will be responsible for:

The daily technical and operational management and oversight of the Chemotherapy Preparation and Dispensing Unit.

Ensuring the quality management system is fully implemented, maintained  and GMP compliant.

Collaborative working alongside other Cancer services and Pharmacy teams, Procurement, Engineering and External Contractors to regularly review service delivery, stock holdings, and unit maintenance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To ensure the chemotherapy unit’s quality system is fully implemented and deviations are reported appropriately. To ensure all changes and other actions are assessed and implemented following standard operating procedures.

To be overall responsible for the workflow management and planning of all aseptic preparations.

To be responsible for the day to day management and allocation of all technical staff.

To undertake when required the roles of the senior technician including aseptic preparation and dispensing of chemotherapy and other products, and to act as a supervisor checker within aseptic areas.

To act as a role model to staff working throughout the department.

To undertake any other reasonable duties as specified by the highly specialised chemotherapy production pharmacists or chief technician.

To lead in the recruitment and selection of staff to the Trust’s chemotherapy aseptic units and assist in recruitment to the pharmacy as a whole.

To lead annual stock takes and internal audits.
