Job overview

We are currently seeking professional, dedicated and forward thinking individuals to join our team. Applicants must have excellent communication, organisational skills, and the ability to work autonomously within given time frames to enable them to work efficiently in this fast paced preassessment unit.

Working as part of a friendly and professional team to undertake pre-operative assessments of all  elective inpatient and day surgery admissions including local, regional and general anaesthetics. Providing safe, effective, efficient care environment for patients, relatives and carers. By successfully completing the assessment process, ordering preoperative investigations and liaising with internal and external members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will have prepared the patients for admission and discharge.

Main duties of the job

In depth assessment of patients in preparation for planned surgery.  Communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team and external agencies to plan and delivery outstanding care and patient journey.  Working closely with senior colleagues to receive support and development with in the preassessment speciality.  Making safe clinical decisions relating to the patient needs to ensure that all required preoperative investigations/information are available and reviewed by clinical team as needed.  Triaging patients  and identifying/ promoting health improvements and pre-habilitation for patient optimisation.  To be able to demonstrate procedures and supervise unqualified staff, and work without direct supervision once the key learning outcomes of the foundation programme are complete. They will participate in the training of junior staff and continue their own personal and professional development. We encourage development and attendance of preassessment courses.
