Main duties of the job

Lead Radiographer on planning CT machine and calculations: The post holder is the clinical specialist for the calculating and Pretreatment planning of cancer patients at the Sussex Cancer Centre and will be in charge of a planning CTunit and team of staff. The post holder will be expected to have good knowledge of Pretreatment, CT and Simulation. The post holder requires advanced clinical knowledge of radiotherapy planning CT procedures, radiation tolerances for human tissue, and physiological reactions due to exposure (side effects). The post holder will practise in accordance with current legislation governing the use of ionising radiation. The post holder must be able to manage their team and students, ensuring efficient and safe patient care. The post holder must have the ability to identify and develop their team. An advanced level of competence is required in the use of a wide range of highly complex technical and computerised systems

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Will have the ability to work on any planning CT machine or calculation area taking on the lead role of that area. Expected to co-ordinate all areas of the process to ensure targets are met for all aspects of the radiotherapy pathway. Have the specialist clinical knowledge to lead advice and treat in all areas of radiotherapy treatment.
  • To have good knowledge of the pretreatment area of radiotherapy; for the purpose of planning patients, include on-call purposes for emergency patients on bank-holiday and weekend working.
  • Have excellent knowledge and ability to perform all complex manual and computerised calculations, checks of calculations, radiotherapy planning treatment, data information, patients’ pathway information and analysis all information prior to radiotherapy planning CT ensuring the information is accurate and safe, adhering to the Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER).
