Job overview

Liverpool University Hospitals Group (UHLG) are seeking dynamic, highly motivated individuals with excellent attention to detail to undertake a two-year, fixed term apprenticeship as a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) based at Aintree University Hospital and Royal Liverpool University Hospital. The role combines academic study with supervised practical training within Trust Pharmacy departments. Apprentices will study for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians with an approved education provider, typically one day per week, alongside structured workplace learning. On successful completion of the programme, trainees will be eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council. During the apprenticeship, PTPTs will gain experience across a range of pharmacy services including dispensary, stores and procurement, technical services such as aseptic preparation, and ward-based pharmacy services. Applicants must be able to commit time outside of work to meet academic and portfolio requirements. To be eligible, applicants must hold at least four GCSEs or recognised equivalents at grades 4–9 (grade C or above), including English Language, Mathematics and a core Science subject. Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths are accepted. Evidence of all relevant qualifications and up to date NARIC (where applicable) must be provided at interview.

Main duties of the job

To attend day release at an accredited course provider, one day per week for two years and satisfy all requirements as instructed by academic staff including all assignments, assessments and examinations to qualify as a registered pharmacy technician.

To work within  a multidisciplinary team including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants.

Provide  high-quality dispensing  for all patients across LUHFT.

Participate in medicines management duties at ward level, such as medicines reconciliation, assessing patients' own medications and ordering medications.

To participate in the preparation and assembly of all pharmaceuticals including extemporaneously prepared products according to the prevailing policies and procedures.

To participate fully in training through rotations within the department and carry out all duties required within each section to complete BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
