Job overview

We are seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable and experienced Midwife to join our well established Practice Development Team.

The post holder must have exceptional communication skills and the ability to prepare, deliver and monitor training to all staff. The post holder will contribute to delivering a variety of training that meets the requirements of national drivers such as the Maternity Incentive Scheme, Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle, MNSI, Maternity Support Worker Transformation and any external maternity report recommendations that arise.

The post holder will also be required to provide strong clinical and managerial leadership, and be able to provide support for all levels of midwifery, medical and maternity support staff.

Main duties of the job

Develop, deliver, and lead on multi-disciplinary training programmes as agreed with the Trust Practice Development Lead.

Provide strong, visible, and effective clinical leadership.

Maintain accurate records on trust training data base and produce relevant reports on training activity and evaluations.

Monitor the learning needs analysis ensuring training delivered meets the agreed commissioned training and learning outcomes.

To lead on PROMPT and Maternity safety training here at RWT.

To provide strong, visible, and effective clinical and managerial leadership as part of the maternity senior management team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To contribute to the multi-disciplinary clinical audit and governance activities
  • To assist with the review of published evidence including relevant national, regional and local reports.
  • To work collaboratively with the senior team to implement, deliver and evaluate effective multidisciplinary training within the maternity service at RWT.
  • To provide clinical and educational support for all levels of midwifery, medical and maternity support staff.
  • To support evidence-based practice, working clinically with the team to deliver safe and effective care.
  • To develop and systematically implement and deliver a mandatory training programme that is responsive to emergent themes within the maternity service.
  • Update and advise the senior management team on national changes to midwifery practice.
  • Support the Maternity Support Worker Transformation Lead with the development and provision of competency packages and training.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment across the maternity service.
  • Represent the professional interests of RWT maternity services at educational events.
  • Ensure effective partnership working with university providers.
  • Implement local learning from Governance into effective learning within multi-disciplinary training
  • Exercising leadership, cultivating positive attitudes towards the team approach and achieving high staff morale.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with all staff and women by fostering good communication systems
  • To maintain and interrogate the maternity training database compiling data for quarterly reports.
  • Summarising training needs analysis and attendance reports to relevant departmental and divisional governance committees.
  • Arrange supportive induction and preceptorship programmes for all new starters.
  • Review evidence including national, regional and local guidelines/reports and contributing to the clinical audit programme to ensure changes are implemented.
  • To liaise closely with the senior management team in meeting the divisional targets in relation to training.
  • Able to contribute to the clinical areas in times of redeployment.
