The General Portering Services at Royal United Bath Hospitals are proudly provided by an In House Team of approximately 80. Each and every one of us are passionate about the work we do delivering a  service which is  24/7 across the Hospital site to the 200+ clinical areas.

We are looking to recruit a Portering Supervisor with a “can do” attitude and passion for providing a timely customer focused service for our patients – and our colleagues on site. You will be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic Portering Services Management Team in the logistics family of the Facilities group. There is plenty of support and resource for you to be able to perform your role

As supervisor, you will be responsible on each shift for the co-ordination, and monitoring of circa 20 porters in their duties;-

  • To ensure an efficient and effective high quality portering service is provided to all clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • To oversee the day to day management of the portering task allocation system
  • To monitor portering staff performance and their welfare; providing support and on the job training for all portering staff as required.
  • To liaise on a regular basis with the portering manager to discuss any issues arising from the provision of the portering service.

You’ll need to be savvy with computers, be able to cope with spreadsheets, writing emails and putting together letters and confident using different computer systems which you’ll be trained in.

Main duties of the job

Provide polite high quality portering service  to clinical and non-clinical departments.

  • To operate telephones, pagers, bleeps and the Patient Flow portering management software system.
  • To conduct audits of the portering service.
  • To assist  with staff appraisals.
  • To liaise on a regular basis with the portering manager to ensure the customers have the best use of the manpower.
  • To assist the Emergency Department in ensuring that the government 4 hour targets are met, by transferring patients for them. •    To ensure that all incidents/accidents are reported and that the correct RUH Trust logging forms are used and correctly filled out.
  • To maintain a high standard of appearance and ensure that the staff adhere to the Trusts policies and procedures on uniforms.
  • To comply with the Trusts and departmental policies and procedures, including COSHH, statutory and local sick pay regulations, fire regulations, infection control, manual and patient handling, local radiation rules and departmental policies, also notifiable diseases.
  • To collect deceased patients and take to the mortuary.
  • To assist with the coroners/funeral directors with BID patients.
  • Assist  with out-of-hours in the process of viewing of deceased patients, following written protocols.
  • To move furniture as requested throughout the RUH Trust site as per the computerised Patient Flow system
  • Transport patients across the RUH site, using a Trust vehicle as required.
