Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is professional, reliable and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team in the Point if Care Testing Department at Rotherham Hospital.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all the Point of Care Testing responsibilities within the Trust from the Laboratory perspective. In addition they will provide the essential link between the host Trust and the Laboratory and be a key member of the existing Point of Care Testing oversight committee. They will also be actively involved in the development of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Network Point of Care Testing Service.

The successful candidate must be registered with the HCPC (or equivalent) and have previous experience working in an NHS Point of Care Testing environment.

Main duties of the job

Supervise and participate in the work of the assigned POCT Sub Section.

Plan and organise day to day running of POCT sub section. This will include work prioritisation, and allocation of staff, liaising with other sections as necessary.

Writing and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for the laboratory, reviewing periodically and ensuring they follow best practice.

Ensure that, where possible, POCT procedures are in accordance with current ISO quality standards in order to work towards achieving full UKAS accreditation.

Participate in the Recruitment and Selection process.

Attend all relevant departmental management and performance review meetings.

To advise on the suitability of future POCT, including the provision of technical advice, suitability assessments and cost/benefit analyses. This will involve liaison with clinical and non-clinical staff.

To monitor performance of POCT equipment across the site and take appropriate action as necessary.

The main responsibilities of the role will be to:

  • Organise the current day to day Point of Care Testing within The Rotherham Trust (including appropriate use and interpretation of IQC and EQA, troubleshooting and advice to users, staff training coordinating technical and scientific evaluations).
  • Delivering a high quality service that is continually developing.
  • All aspects of Quality Management associated with POCT (including Asset Management, Audit, Incident Recording and Investigation, Risk, document management, COSHH).
  • Management responsibilities to Laboratory POCT personnel (including recruitment and retention, staff development, one to ones and annual reviews, leave approval and sickness reviews).
  • Attendance and participation at Trust POCT Governance Committee Meetings.
  • Participate in the development of the SYBP POCT service.
  • Maintain and promote the professional image of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology, the SYBP partner trusts and working within the STH Trusts PROUD Values.
