Job overview

The Podiatry Department provides a comprehensive service to patients throughout North Cumbria. As a band 3 Podiatry Assistant, the post holder will maintain and be responsible for delivering ongoing foot care to patients, while escalating care to the podiatrist which falls out with their scope of practice. As well as providing foot care and footwear education to patients and their carers. The post holder will support nail surgery clinics.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide delegated podiatric/foot care to patients. Including care of nails using appropriate podiatric equipment, post-operative nail dressings for at risk patients.
  • Assist with vascular assessments, which may involve the use of specialist equipment
  • Provide basic wound care for high risk or acute patients under the supervision of a podiatrist and using wound care app to record consultations.
  • Prepare and Assist the podiatrist during specialist treatments e.g. nail surgery
  • Renewal of palliative and functional insoles or silicone devices that have previously been prescribed by a podiatrist.
  • Provide support to registered podiatrists in high risk clinics.
  • When indicated refer patients to the podiatrist where more specialist treatment is needed.
  • Work in a variety of clinics, residential care homes and patients own homes.
  • Maintain a level of clinical stock at main clinics.
  • Care of instruments and equipment, in line with departmental and Trust guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in line with departmental guidelines and Trust policy.
  • Input data for new and existing patients on the electronic health record and update patient’s details
  • Maintain an efficient filing system and storing patient’s records in accordance with the trust policy on confidentiality.
  • Deliver health education talks to individuals and groups of patients, carers and health care professionals if delegated by the podiatrist.
