This is an exciting opportunity for you to join Homerton Healthcare as a Band 3 Phlebotomist.

We are looking for a highly motivated Phlebotomist’s, with experience of evacuated blood-letting systems. We have the Phlebotomy Service running in the Main Outpatients Department, Antenatal, wards, community, children and other clinical areas. Collecting blood samples in accordance of electronic EPR/tQuest system and request forms procedures.

This person must be punctual, reliable, a team player, have willingness to learn and good communication skills.

This person must be flexible and able to work at weekends (this will be on a rota basis). We are hiring for 1 full-time (37.5 hours) Phlebotomist

Main duties of the job

To obtain blood specimens using evacuated blood technique from wards, community and outpatients in an extremely busy clinical area, and other areas.

This job involves dealing with members of the public and liaising with other health care professionals. Time management is essential due to the volume of patients that will attend the phlebotomy service. Computer skills are desirable but not essential.

You will need to be compliant of all trust values and be able to provide examples on Infection Control policies and procedures.

  • To take blood samples from patients using both needle and syringe and evacuated blood systems.  • To ensure that work areas are clean and tidy at all times. • To take samples to the pathology department as necessary. • To be familiar with all  equipment used. • To be familiar with different tests performed and ensuring that correct containers are used. • To ensure that all patient information is correct and specimens are labelled correctly and appropriately. • To inform the appropriate person if the blood sample has not been collected. • To work as part of the team, providing support and assistance to colleagues were necessary. • To ensure that all patients and colleagues are treated fairly, courteously and with respect at all times. • Any other reasonable duties as specified by the Supervisor or Service Manager. • To liaise with all other health care professional as necessary.
