At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

We are excited to offer a full time Phlebotomist position based at Leighton Hospital.

The collection of quality blood samples from patients is vital in many medical investigations. The successful applicants must enjoy working with people and possess good communication skills.

We offer Phlebotomy services in a range of locations across North Midlands including Leighton and Macclesfield, ward based, community multi-cubicle locations and community appointment-based clinics. Attention to detail is important, along with basic keyboard skills and applicants should enjoy the challenge of working in a fast-paced patient environment.

Based at Leighton, the successful applicants would be expected to work at various Phlebotomy clinics. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team

It is a requirement of your role that you have access to a vehicle for work purposes, which must be suitable for travelling to community phlebotomy clinics and transporting samples back to the hospital premises. It is your responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is insured for class 1 business use and for the transportation of pathology samples. Expenses will be paid in accordance with Trust policy when you use your vehicle for work purposes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to collect blood samples from patients using venepuncture and capillary techniques.

The post holder will be required, after a period of training, to work independently and as part of a team, according to service requirements.

To be an efficient and flexible member of the phlebotomy team assisting in the delivery of the service.

To communicate with patients in a mature, discreet and professional manner, with due regard to confidentiality.

The post holder may be required to liaise with other healthcare professionals in person or by telephone.

To work as a team within Phlebotomy following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure a high quality service.

To comply with the standard operating procedures pertaining to the centrifugation and bar coding of samples and order comms.

To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety, and Quality.
