Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated qualified phlebotomists to join both our busy Barts Outpatient Phlebotomy Team at St. Bartholomew Hospital.  You will support this team and site operations to ensure challenges are given responsive attention to effectively ensure the flow of blood tests is maintained, engaging with both our in-patients and out-patients, as well as external stakeholders.

This role is vital in the delivery of operational performance of blood testing on all our patients that are in the hospital to have a blood testing to support ongoing treatments and diagnosis’s.  Supporting patient flow and support to other clinical colleagues and working with the site leadership team to perform to a very high standard.

Our Phlebotomists will provide a flexible day to day service working either as part of the Outpatient phlebotomy team or across both on a rotation.  You will work under a phlebotomy team leader who will task work to you supporting the service requirement for our outpatients and requiring a blood test.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the collection of blood samples for laboratory analysis from adult patients in allocated Outpatient’s Department of the hospital or associated clinical areas.

  • To participate in the provision of a high quality phlebotomy service to all patients in any location as required.
  • To manage and prioritise workload in various clinical areas.
  • To be involved in the training of other staff where appropriate.
  • Where workload is high, discussion with team leader to evaluate time management of clinical area allocated.
