Job overview

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our wonderful team at Water Meadow View, our new state-of-the-art 14-bed facility for people with learning disabilities and mental ill health, that is scheduled to open in October 2025.

You should be enthusiastic and self -motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to prioritise own workload. Working with the Pharmacists, you will provide a high level of pharmaceutical care as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.

The successful applicant will also participate with audit, medicines reconciliation and take a lead in the oversight of medicines supply for the hospital.

The Pharmacy Service within Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust is a well-established team with a wealth of expertise in both Mental Health and Community services and continues to provide high quality clinical input into all aspects of the health provision delivered by the organisation. We are a supportive team committed to the education and development of our expanding service.

Main duties of the job

  • Contribute operationally to the development and delivery of the pharmaceutical and medicines management service in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and the pharmacy business plan.
  • Based at ward level, undertake the management, ordering and supply of medicines required for hospital in-patients.
  • Support the medicines management provision to the community based learning disability teams.
  • Provide counselling to patients on medicines related issues thereby supporting medicines optimisation and adherence to medication.
  • Undertake medicines reconciliation when patients are admitted and discharged from the service.
  • Independently assess prescribed medication regimens and physical health conditions to prioritise patients for a pharmaceutical assessment by the pharmacist.
  • Participate in local and national audits and monitor compliance with medicines legislation and national and local standards for the safe and secure handling of medicines.
  • Participate in the development of a range of medicines management activities at ward level.
  • Act as a key member of the multidisciplinary ward team and the wider pharmacy team.
