Job overview

  • Lead the Training and Development of pharmacy staff.
  • As part of the pharmacy service of ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines throughout the Trust.
  • To contribute to an efficient and accurate pharmacy service to Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Trust
  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the dispensary.
  • There is a requirement to be confident and able to work with service users, carers and healthcare staff internally and other organisations to ensure the service users are safe with their medicines.
  • The following represent a broad outline of tasks the post holder will be expected to perform in achieving their key result areas. This is not intended as a fixed list of duties.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Chief Pharmacist and the Senior Pharmacy Technician the post holder will perform whatever duties are reasonably necessary to achieve the job purpose and overall safe provision of pharmacy services throughout the trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead  training, development of new starters, in pharmacy department. Develop, update training packages in line with pharmacy needs. Evaluate staff progression and feedback.
  • Assist in the training, development and mentorship of apprentice ATOs and technicians.
  • Undertake TAQA/NVQ assessor qualification and other relevant training qualifications.
  • Co-ordinate training for pharmacy, medical and nursing staff on the use of the EPMA system.
  • To maintain sufficient knowledge of dispensary systems to effectively deputise and support the senior technicians with the daily departmental operations.
  • Provide cover for other Lead Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Participate in the safe and efficient dispensing and supply of medication.
  • Supervise and mentor staff. Plan and implement education sessions for pharmacy staff.
  • Assist in any relevant audits.
  • To promote the professional image of the pharmacy by ensuring that the standard of dress and behaviour reflects the professional service provided by the department.
  • To participate in annual personal development review and to agree to training objectives set.
  • To maintain continued professional development (CPD) as required by the GPhC.
  • To comply with trust policies including confidentiality, personal and patient safety.
