Under the guidance of the Specialist Pharmacy Technician - Homecare and the Pharmacy Homecare Team Manager complete all aspects of administration involved with the Pharmacy Homecare service at North Bristol NHS Trust from order creation through to checking documentation ready for invoice payment and passing invoices for payment. Carry out day-to-day duties of Pharmacy Homecare in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure a safe, effective, and timely service. Communicate effectively with a range of professionals, both internally and externally, as well as patients.
This post requires completion of Buttercups Level 2 training relevant to your area of work within 6 months of starting in post, as well as completion of the Pharmacy Homecare training package. All the relevant training will be provided under the supervision of Pharmacy Learning and Development team. After successful completion of all training and the Buttercups training course, the post holder will progress to Band 3.

- Process Homecare prescriptions and send to the Homecare Provider in a timely and secure manner
- Check Homecare invoices against purchase orders and current contract prices, passing correct invoices for payment or querying as appropriate
- Maintain and update Homecare records relating to homecare patients, prescriptions processed, and invoices passed for payment
- Deal with any queries relating to homecare services, from either trust staff, homecare provider staff or patients and their representatives, via phone or email in a timely manner to ensure patients treatments are not interrupted

Job Description
- Creation of purchase orders against valid Homecare prescriptions and transition of all relevant documents in a timely and secure manner to relevant Homecare provider(s) in accordance with agreed contracts and Service Level Agreements.
- Checking accuracy of homecare invoices against purchase orders and current contract prices, and passing invoices for payment or querying as appropriate
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when raising homecare orders and processing homecare invoices
- Maintain and update Homecare records relating to homecare patients, prescriptions processed, and invoices passed for payment
- Effective communication with pharmacy staff, wider trust staff, suppliers, patients or agreed patient representatives, and homecare provider staff to ensure the smooth running of the homecare service
- Deal with any queries relating to homecare services, from either trust staff, homecare provider staff or patients and their representatives, via phone or email in a timely manner to ensure patients treatments are not interrupted
- Ensures that all systems and processes related to the smooth running of the Homecare service are followed.
The post-holder should possess the following skills and abilities to be considered for the role;
- GCSE English and Mathematics grade C/4 or above.
Level 2 qualification in pharmacy services, or willingness to complete the course within the first year of employment
Recent clerical experience within a busy office environment.
Previous employment in a hospital or community pharmacy
Experience in customer orientated services with a knowledge of customer care
Excellent IT skills, including accurate data entry and experience using Microsoft Office software especially Excel.
Good problem solving skills but also aware of own limits
Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively.
Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
Self-motivated, logical, methodical and with a good attention to detail
Able to work accurately and flexibly under pressure and through interruptions
Willing to be trained and instructed.
Staff are required to work any combination of hours between 07:00am – 08:00pm. Shift patterns will be allocated once appointed, as the Department is moving towards a full 7-day service, and will include weekend working on a rotational basis. All applicants will be required to work at the Frenchay Beckspool office.
