Main duties of the job

This role is fundamental to the effective payment of salaries, enhancements and associated benefits to members of staff and Directors from the outsourced Payroll provider.  The Senior Administration Team Leader (Payroll) will line manage a team responsible for staff contract changes, managing complex payroll queries and ensuring payroll processes run as smoothly as possible.  This includes administering the contract with the external provider and providing training, support and guidance internally to ensuring information relating to pay is provided and processed in accordance with published timescales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To line manage a Team administering staff contract changes in ESR and Healthroster, managing complex payroll queries from staff, HR, Resourcing staff and Directors as required in relation to personal and sensitive information, liaising with the Trusts external Payroll contractor as appropriate.

To take responsibility for the effective processing and information transfer between the Trust and the Payroll provider dealing with and managing complex queries as appropriate.

Working with colleagues across the Employment Services Team, maintain quality of payroll data submission with minimal errors and reduce the amount of late submissions through to Payroll.

To ensure that information relating to pay is processed and stored securely and confidentially using ESR and internal change form systems.

To resolve problems which require judgements of facts and situations, requiring analysis. Making decisions of when to escalate issues and queries as appropriate.

To produce pay uploads and data entry, with frequent interruptions from staff and managers’ telephoning and visiting the office. Requires prolonged concentration to ensure accuracy and analysis of complex information and comparison to a range of options.

Be a main point of contact in identifying and resolving complex human resources pay and conditions issues. Provide support and training where appropriate to staff and line managers which may require analysis and professional judgement of local Trust policies and national payroll policies.
