Job summary
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for ensuring the Emergency Department (ED) clinical system (Symphony) is accurate and up to date at all times, including patient location and waiting times.
- Continually monitor the Symphony system and ensure patients are tracked against all elements of the Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) Standards, escalating potential breaches of all UEC Standards to the Nurse in Charge and/or Consultant in charge of the department. Key UEC standards that are applicable are as follows:-
- 4 hours in department
- 12 hours from RTA (Ready to Admit) time
- Time to see a Clinician
- Time to initial assessment
- Ambulance Handover Times
- Support the nurse in charge of department to maintain effective patient flows within all Clinical areas (majors, minors resuscitation, red chair assessment, ambulance handover)
- Maintain a live overview of the number of patients registered in each area of the Emergency Department.
- Pro-active in alerting the senior nurse and consultant in charge to building workload as determined by in-flow and volume of patients in each area of the ED.
- Supports the team to maintain effective utilisation of available physical capacity within the department
- Ensures timely coding of patients leaving department to ensure accurate clock stop against the 4 hours standard
