Job overview

Are you looking for your first role as an SLT, or to develop your skills further post qualification?

We are looking for Band 5 Speech and Language Therapists to join our innovative and successful Paediatric Therapies Team in Richmond. The Richmond-upon-Thames Local Area SEND inspection report (October 2023) commented positively on our team’s work:

‘Therapists provide timely assessments and innovative approaches to make sure that those caring for or working with children and young people with SEND receive the support and guidance they need.’

Richmond is a great place to live and work and has been named as the “happiest place to live” in Great Britain (Rightmove’s “Happy at Home” Index, 2023).

We offer a supportive programme of development and supervision for newly qualified therapists which enables them to complete their competencies and develop their skills in a range of clinical areas according to their interests and the needs of the service. Here’s what some of our current therapists like about working in our team:

“This team is by far the most supportive I have worked in”.

“The management have been very proactive with helping me find and develop a specialism”.

“It’s very easy to access supervision, outreach and advice by specialists and everyone is actively keen to help”.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an ability to work flexibly, using their initiative to deliver a responsive and quality service.
  • Work effectively as part of wider team and have some experience of  working with pre-school and school aged children including those with additional needs, as well as with their families/key professionals.
  • Deliver assessment and management for pre-school and school-age children with speech, language or communication difficulties ensuring that the service is effective and responsive to the changing needs of the local population across Richmond.
  • Ensure effective joint working practice between the SLT (SLT) service, other speech & language therapists and other relevant professional teams in the fields of health, education, the voluntary sector, social services etc.
  • Deliver training to parents and professionals in order to develop their skills and knowledge enabling them to adapt the communicative environment and reinforce identified targets throughout the day.
  • Provide group and individual therapy for pre-school children with a range of speech, language and communication needs alongside other SLTs or therapy assistants.
