We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our Children’s Integrated Therapy Team here in Hillingdon. We welcome applications from qualified therapists who are looking for a change or from newly qualified therapists with a strong desire to work in the area of community paediatrics.

Our service is responsible for providing physiotherapy intervention to children within the borough of Hillingdon, treating children and young adults with physical impairments and/or developmental difficulties.

We work out of a main base at Wood End Centre in Hayes and The Child Development Centre on the grounds of Hillingdon Hospital. We also work in other settings such as Children’s Centres, Nurseries, special and mainstream schools and patients homes.

The London borough of Hillingdon has good transport links to the centre of London by tube, bus and road including the M4 and M40 and access to the surrounding counties of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary paediatric team and work closely alongside Occupational Therapists, Speech and language therapists and therapy assistants. The caseload includes orthopaedics (torticollis, talipes, Erb’s Palsy etc) to complex conditions. The caseload you will be responsible for will be highly varied and promote your clinical and professional development. Clinics that we offer include CPIP-UK and serial casting, as well as running developmental, exercise and gym groups. We also have a service level agreement with Hillingdon Hospital to provide a Ponseti service with the local orthopaedic team.

Multi-disciplinary working with various other health professionals and the local authority is a vital component of this position. Close links also exist between Hillingdon Hospital and some of the tertiary centres within the London area. The successful candidate will be expected to be highly motivated, energetic and a true team player with some experience in paediatric physiotherapy. Excellent communication skills are expected and own transport will also be beneficial.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide paediatric therapeutic assessment, education, advice and treatment services for patients.
  • To manage own clinical caseload within the community setting as a member of the children’s physiotherapy team with support from senior staff via various methods.
  • To provide advice to other healthcare professionals, social care workers, educational support staff, carers and relatives in in order for them to implement therapy advice effectively.
  • To support with supervision and mentorship of physiotherapy students
  • To support others with the early identification of children with physiotherapy needs.
  • To prioritise the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Children at all times
  • To support the service to achieve Key Performance Indicators and maintain Target Activity Levels
  • To take part in quality governance, audits and projects for the team/service
  • To contribute to, and provide feedback about, possible developments in the team
