Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Paediatric Diabetes Nurse to join our Paediatric Diabetes Team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to develop specialist expertise in the care of children and young people living with diabetes.

In this role, you will manage a defined caseload, providing high‑quality, evidence‑based care from diagnosis through ongoing management. You will work closely with families, schools, community teams, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure a seamless, child‑centred service.

You will contribute to clinical assessment, education, and support for children and families, while developing your skills in insulin pump therapy, diabetes technologies, and specialist interventions. The role also involves participation in clinics, community visits, service development, audit, and transition planning for young people moving into adult services.

This post offers a supportive environment with opportunities for professional development, including specialist training and potential progression in diabetes care. If you are committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with diabetes, we would welcome your application.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a caseload of children and young people with diabetes, delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based care from diagnosis onwards.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice, education, and support to children, families, and carers to promote safe treatment and effective self‑management.
  • Participate in paediatric diabetes clinics, follow‑up reviews, and community or home visits as required.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care in partnership with families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop skills in insulin pump therapy and diabetes technologies, progressing towards teaching and supporting families in their use.
  • Contribute to developing and reviewing clinical protocols, pathways, and service improvements.
  • Support transition planning for young people moving to adult diabetes services.
  • Recognise and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with Trust policies.
  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records and support audit, service evaluation, and quality improvement.
  • Participate in education and training for families, ward staff, community teams, and other professionals.
  • Support Trust initiatives, risk management, and infection prevention and control standards.
  • Act as a visible, knowledgeable practitioner and positive role model within the paediatric diabetes service.
