Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, compassionate dietitian to join our well-established Paediatric Diabetes Dietetic Service.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about paediatrics, you'll be part of a dynamic, award-winning team working across Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospitals, supporting around 300 children and young people with all forms of diabetes. Alongside diabetes care, there are opportunities to gain experience in other areas of paediatric dietetics.

You’ll support MDT clinics, inpatient care, education sessions, insulin pump starts, and events like residential camps. A full training package is offered, including MSc modules, pump training, and BDA Core Skills. Our wider paediatric dietetic team covers diverse areas such as food allergy, faltering growth, coeliac disease, and cystic fibrosis. Main duties of the job

Providing dietetic care and support to patients and their families/carers who may be living with type 1, type 2 and rarer forms of diabetes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Inpatient education for newly diagnosed patients, as well as patients admitted for re-education or emergency diabetes care

Outpatient MDT clinics

Education (both group and 1-2-1) for schools, wider families/carers, warstaff, other health-care providers

- 1-2-1 dietetic appointment including how to manage diabetes with sports and complex meals

- Dietetic support for diabetes technology starts

- Reviewing blood glucose levels

- Supporting and facilitating informal education and peer support events

- Working in collaboration with our parent representative group

- Working with the wider team to safeguard patients. This includes following Trust safeguarding policies.

- Actively participate in audits, quality improvement and service development

- Actively participate in Diabetes Network meetings

- Supporting student placements and training of other colleagues as needed

- Actively facilitating equitable access to care for all and being mindful of potential inequalities, stigmas, or barriers to care

Skills and qualities:

- Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, active listening and excellent verbal communication skills

- To provide holistic care that considers individual circumstances and needs

- To be able to deliver education to patient groups and other professionals

- To be able to manage and plan own workload time-effectively without supervision

- To be aware of safeguarding responsibilities including reporting concerns and taking appropriate action when safeguarding issues are identified

- To respond empathetically and sensitively to patients, parents/carers and other family members in emotionally distressing circumstances

- You will need to work as part of a team and liaise with professionals at all levels

- To be flexible and the ability to be assertive when needed
