Job overview

Are you passionate about working with and supporting children and young people who have been given a diagnosis of ADHD? We are excited to be able to grow our ADHD nursing service and have the opportunity for either an experienced nurse prescriber or a nurse looking to develop their career (and gain non medical prescribing skills) to join our team.

This is an ideal role for someone with experience of caring for children and young people with neurodiversity, or additional needs, who is looking to specialise in the field of children's ADHD.

The successful applicant will hold exceptional organisational skills and have the ability to manage a busy but varied workload. You must have the ability to work both independently and as part of the team. You will also need to demonstrate an understanding of ADHD and other additional needs to adapt your own communication skills, to meet the needs of the children, young people and families you work with.

The role will involve community based lone working in a variety of settings across the Gt Yarmouth and Waveney area. Therefore, a full driving license and access to a car for work purposes, is essential. The role will be offered as a band 6 training post for candidates who require or are working towards a nurse prescribing qualification, with progression to band 7 once qualified.

Main duties of the job

The team sits within the community paediatric service and will involve:

  • Working alongside Specialist Nurses (Non-Medical Prescribers), community paediatricians, and psychologists within the team.
  • Monitoring of physical health and post diagnosis support in line with safe prescribing of ADHD Medication.
  • Contributing towards EHCP assessments, school liaison, and school meetings.
  • Wider involvement in MDT meetings.
  • Work within a systemic and holistic framework undertaking needs led and evidence-based assessments within the ADHD Nurse Led Service.
  • Work with children, young people, parents, carers and schools in a variety of ways to help support management of child or young person’s diagnosis.
  • Develop good working relationships with children/families/partner agencies/schools.
  • Be aware of the needs of relatives and carers, giving them advice and support when necessary.
  • Liaise with other professionals in order that the child and family/carers receive an integrated multi-agency approach.
  • Participate in the monitoring, research and evaluation of the ADHD Nurse Led Service.
  • Actively contribute to the implementation of the safeguarding agenda within the service, in partnership with the James Paget University Hospital Safeguarding Team.
