We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Outreach Librarian to join our   friendly, hard-working and innovative team at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Knowledge & Library Services.

The post is offered as a two-year fixed term contract in the first instance (working 3 days a week). It is also an excellent secondment opportunity if you are currently working at Band 5 and want to gain experience at the next higher grade.

The postholder will develop and manage the delivery of effective Knowledge and Library Services to community and mental health teams in East Sussex. They will also be responsible for current awareness and literature search service promoting evidence-based decision making to all professional staff.

The purpose of the knowledge specialist is to enable primary care and mental health staff to access and use quality evidence from research and best practice as well as organisational knowledge to underpin decision-making.

The post holder will work as part of a team to deliver the full range of effective knowledge and library services to Trust staff, students on placement and partner organisations with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Main duties of the job

  • To develop, manage and deliver information skills training to staff and students served by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust Knowledge and Library Services. This includes creating and developing sessions on how to search the specialist healthcare databases (e.g. PyschInfo, Medline and EMBASE), and how to find reliable clinical or general healthcare information.
  • To lead the provision of specialist library support for user groups working in collaboration with the Head of Knowledge and Library Services, this will include all medical trainees.
  • To carry out complex enquiry work, research and literature searches using appropriate resources and tools.
  • To identify, procure, catalogue and classify books, according to approved national and local standards and policies; ensuring the records in the library management system, are updated to bibliographic standards.
  • To be responsible for the outreach library service including the effective management of all resources to maximise usage and best value.
  • To attend appropriate meetings as a representative of ESHT Knowledge and Library Services both within the organisation and with external organisations when required.
  • Lead on marketing and promoting the Knowledge Specialist service to community and mental health teams in the patch.
  • Fully contribute to evaluating the Knowledge Specialist Service and collect evidence to showcase impact and value.
