Job overview

We are currently seeking to recruit a Band 5 Orthopaedic Practitioner to join our Multi-disciplinary Team, who can demonstrate knowledge and enthusiasm for the role. A person, who respects others, can work effectively within the environment processing several clinics with a variety of activities, whilst supporting a diverse Multidisciplinary team. A key part of this role will be to contribute to the development of our casting services and therefore must hold a current casting pin with The British Orthopaedic Casting Association.

This Role will be based in Fracture Clinic at The Royal Victoria Infirmary, where we see more than 25,000 patients per year. Providing services to both Paediatric and Adult patients. We work as a multi-disciplinary team of medical staff, Nurses, Orthopaedic Practitioners, Radiology staff, Physiotherapists, Fracture Liaison and Administration staff to ensure that high quality care for all patients is delivered. Within Fracture Clinic we care for patients of all ages who have suspected fractures, confirmed fractures and those who are being reviewed following fracture or Musculoskeletal injury.

Main duties of the job

Alongside the Fracture Clinic we provide care for patients attending elective clinics including spinal, shoulder and knee clinics. We also provide support services for Musculoskeletal Outpatient Department at Freeman Hospital Site, Accident and Emergency Directorate, Plastic Directorate, Community Physiotherapy, and Podiatry Services. As well as providing casting service to all inpatients within our Trust.

Our Clinic is open 7 days a week, including Bank Holidays. We constantly strive to improve the patient’s experience so are keen to explore new ways of working.

  • Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out musculoskeletal procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder is expected to deliver casting/splinting and bracing services across a wide and varied patient group.
  • Direct patient contact, children and adults to measure, apply and remove casts / splinting and bracing for emergency and elective patients. This may involve splinting for children with non-accidental injury.
  • Work collaboratively as an effective member of MDT.
