Job overview

As a key member of the Organisational Development Team, the Organisational Development Consultant will support the design, development and delivery of organisational development activity across the Trust.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the People Directorate and operational services, the post holder will contribute to the diagnosis of organisational and team development needs and support the design and implementation of appropriate OD interventions.

The role will provide specialist advice and guidance on organisational development approaches to individuals, teams and services, supporting improvements in leadership capability, team effectiveness and organisational culture & values.

Working with the wider OD team, the post holder will contribute to the development and implementation of organisational development practice across the Trust and support the delivery of key leadership and management development programmes, including the UHCW Leader Programme and Step into Management, as well as contributing to the development of future leadership and organisational development initiatives.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as an initial point of contact for the Organisational Development Team, providing advice and guidance on OD services to support individuals, teams and services across the Trust.
  • Respond to enquiries using professional judgement, offering advice, signposting or referral in line with Trust values and OD principles.
  • Manage requests for OD support, assessing need and determining appropriate action, seeking guidance from senior colleagues where more complex interventions are required (e.g. coaching, mentoring, team or leadership development).
  • Support the management of demand for OD activity, contributing to the coordination of workload, priorities and capacity.
  • Support and contribute to OD projects and interventions within the People Directorate.
  • Work collaboratively to diagnose organisational, leadership and team development needs, supporting the design and delivery of interventions that enable service improvement and cultural development.
  • Support the delivery of leadership and management programmes, including the UHCW Leader Programme and Step into Management.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of OD practice and programmes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Lead or collaborate in the design and facilitation of organisational development activities including:

  • Learning and development activities such as Leadership and management development, coaching and mentoring support
  • Team development interventions to support improved team effectiveness, collaboration and service improvement
  • Workshops, structured conversations and facilitated sessions that support organisational learning and Development
  • Meetings, staff engagement events and development forums
  • Focus groups and staff engagement activities that inform organisational Development work
  • Interviews and structured discussions that support organisational diagnosis, evaluation and improvement activity

Contribute to and support the management of organisational Development projects, including developing project plans, contributing to progress reporting, identifying key measures of success and highlighting emerging risks or issues.

Support the planning and coordination of organisational Development activity, including organising workshops, learning events and development sessions, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and ensuring appropriate resources are in place to support delivery.

Use data and insight to inform organisational Development practice, including the interpretation of staff survey findings, behavioural and Values-based diagnostics, evaluation data and other organisational intelligence sources.

Support the use of psychometric and diagnostic tools, where appropriate, to inform Leadership, team and organisational Development activity, ensuring these are used ethically, proportionately and in line with Trust guidance.

Develop, curate and maintain organisational Development resources, tools and guidance to support individuals, teams and services across the Trust.

Develop content and communications that support the work of the Organisational Development Team, including presentations, reports, briefing papers and learning materials.

Support the integration of equality, diversity and inclusion principles within organisational Development activity, ensuring interventions reflect inclusive practice and support the Trust’s commitment to fairness, respect and belonging.

Build and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues across the Trust and with external partners, working collaboratively to support organisational Development priorities.

Use initiative and professional judgement to identify opportunities for improvement within organisational Development practice and contribute to the continuous Development of the OD function.
