Job overview

Bart’s Heart and Thorax Centre (BHTC) are currently seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic Cardiac Catheter Lab Radiographer with a wealth of clinical and managerial experience who is looking for the opportunity to lead a friendly, hard-working, ambitious and highly skilled team of Cardiac Radiographers within the largest Cardiovascular Centre in Europe.

BHTC utilises state-of-the-art equipment, with 9 Siemens Catheter Labs, a Philips structural heart lab and Philips hybrid theatre with plans for expansion, leading the way in world-first procedures using latest technological advances and undertaking ground-breaking research and live broadcasting of cases for educational meetings and congresses, with opportunities to get involved.

This role involves day-to-day coordination of the labs and staffing provision, including both managerial and clinical duties, with participation in the departmental out of hours emergency on call service provision.

Teaming with the Operational Lead Radiographer for CT/CMR and deputising for the Head of Radiography in their absence, this fundamental role within the BHC senior team works closely with the Cath Lab Manager, Nursing Matron, Principal Physiologists and Consultant Cardiologists as well as the Barts Trust leadership and management team and key stakeholders reporting and advising on service demands, expansion and delivery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the day to day provision of the Cardiac Cath Lab Radiography services within Barts Heart and Thorax Centre (BHTC), ensuring the service is run in an efficient and effective manner. The post holder will also contribute to operational coordination of the Cath Labs.

The post holder will provide high profile Clinical Specialist support to the Cath labs, and to the Cardiac Imaging department as a whole. The post holder will liaise with departmental Superintendent Radiographers with respect to staffing and other resource issues, and is responsible for the management of the Cath Lab Cardiac Radiographers, Specialist Cardiac Radiographers and Advanced Cardiac Radiographers.

The post holder will be expected to act as a Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for the service and will complete the appropriate training in order to be appointed and added to Bart’s Health RPS register to carry out these duties.

This service is key to operational priorities within the Directorate and as such, the post holder will be expected to interact with senior members of the hospital staff reporting and advising on service demands and delivery. The post holder will be expected to articulate knowledgeably and effectively on complex technical issues to all service users.
