The Emergency Department in Leicester is inviting applications for an established fellow post from highly motivated Higher Specialty (Must have completed CT3 by August 2026) or post CCT Emergency Medicine doctors.

Main duties of the job

This post is ideal for individuals with a passion in Emergency Medicine who wish to develop their non-clinical skills. We at Leicester Royal Infirmary are looking for individuals interested in a 1 year OOPE position, 50% clinical 50% non-clinical time focusing on your special interest. We have 27 Consultants across our state of the art Emergency Department, all of which would support you to achieve your goal. We have established OOPE opportunities in education, pre hospital medicine, geriatrics and quality improvement but would also be prepared to listen to your ideas!

The job plan would be 50% clinical with 50% focusing on your project!

The clinical element is at Registrar level (applicants must have completed CT3 by August 2026).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Whilst on duty the appointee will be clinically and professionally responsible for their patients.  It will also be their duty to:

  • Keep patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) informed about their condition;
  • Involve patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) in decision making about their treatment;
  • Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out from time to time by the General Medical Council (GMC) and comply in particular with the GMC’s guidance on ‘Good Medical Practice’ as amended or substituted from time to time;
  • Carry out any work related to and reasonably incidental to the duties set out in their Job Plan e.g. the keeping of records and the provision of reports, the proper delegation of tasks, maintaining skills and knowledge.

Learning outcomes:

Learning outcomes for individual appointees will be determined after the first meeting between them and their educational supervisor.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to graduate and continuing medical education activity locally, regionally and nationally as appropriate and to participate in clinical audit under local arrangements.
