CANCER RESEARCH/STEFANI UNIT

RESIDENT DR - CLINICAL FELLOW FY2+ IN CANCER CLINICAL TRIALS

The expanding portfolio of cancer clinical trials in Tayside Cancer Centre has provided an exciting opportunity for a FY2+ doctor to join our clinical trials team to support the delivery of Oncology clinical research and trials in the Stefani Cancer Trails Unit at Ninewells Hospital and Medical school. This post will be for one year in first instance

The post holder will principally be based in The Stefani Cancer Trails unit which is embedded in Tayside Cancer Centre on the Ninewells Hospital and Medical school site . This post offers the opportunity to gain experience in the delivery of Oncology clinical trials as well as in specialist medical and clinical oncology care of cancer patients across a broad range of tumour types.

The Stefani Cancer Trails Unit operates as part of the Tayside Medical Science Centre – a joint NHS Tayside and University of Dundee clinical research institute, the Stefani Cancer trails unit provides dedicated staff and facilities for the delivery of oncology clinical trials.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of Oncology clinical trials investigating novel treatments working alongside experienced research nurses and established Principal Investigators.

Day to day work will include screening, approach and consenting of potential subjects, and completion of study visits and associated paperwork for Oncology Clinical Trials.

In the Stefani Cancer trails unit , there are active clinical trials across a broad range of Oncology sub-specialties including gastroesophageal, Hepatobiliary, Colorectal, Breast, Lung, Thyroid Head and Neck and Skin cancers and comprise Phase Ib, II and II studies of investigational medical products as well as ATIMPs and experimental cancer medicine studies involving novel diagnostics , analysis of biospecimens for mechanistic studies and to generate novel patient derived tumour models for laboratory investigations .

The research activities of the Stefani are closely aligned to the Academic Unit of Medical Oncology in the School of Medicine and through this the successful candidates will be supported to undertake personal research projects and to develop applications for clinical research training fellowships which can support higher degrees (PhD, MD) e.g., the Chief Scientist Office Clinical Academic Fellowship scheme in their own time, if desired).

Opportunities will be available for attendance at specialist Medical and Clinical Oncology clinics, and to gain experience in clinical procedures relevant to Oncology specialist practice and training.

Dependent on Training and experience there will be opportunity to participate in Oncology out of hours on call for Tayside Cancer Centre and Ninewells Hospital.

Training will be provided on commencement of the post in the conduct of clinical trials, including Good Clinical Practice as required, and the performance and interpretation of techniques relevant to each study
