Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 2 HCA posts within our regional Cancer Centre. The post holder would be responsible for supporting the running of Outpatient Clinics for cancer patients and supporting clinical staff. We are looking for hard working, enthusiastic people with good communication skills to join our busy team. Previous experience is desirable.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision of high quality care to patients and their families under the direction and supervision of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Demonstrate a range of nursing skills to meet the needs of patients whilst promoting dignity, privacy and respect. To comply with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers. To provide a range of healthcare and non-nursing duties, ensuring an efficient and effective service to the ward/department at all times.

The  post  holder  will  assist  the  clinic  staff  and  doctors  in  the  care  of  patients  in  the  Oncology Outpatients setting.  They will also provide professional and efficient clerical, administrative and receptionist duties in order to support the registered nurse.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Accepts responsibility for ensuring own practice is safe. Reports any untoward incidents to the nurse in charge and participates in the documentation of this incident as per Trust Policy.
  • To maintain good customer service skills when dealing with patients and visitors in the department.
  • To participate in training, education and meetings as requested by the registered nurse.
  • Ensure that patient/client privacy is maintained and that dignity and freedom of choice is enhanced.
  • Correctly use aids and equipment supplied for patients.  Report needs and obvious defects of this equipment to the nurse in charge.  The Health Care Assistant is not responsible for the initial ordering of aids and equipment nor for their mechanical maintenance.
  • In the interests of health and safety, the Health Care Assistant should only undertake manual handing of patients after having received adequate training and instruction.
  • To work with the Registered Nurse to maintain smooth running clinics sessions.
  • To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained and patients’ rights and dignity are respected in line with Trust policy.
  • Communicate effectively with all disciplines of staff as appropriate and also with patients and their families.
