Job overview

This post is for a senior occupational therapist who will be responsible for the continuing delivery of the occupational therapy treatment pathways alongside multidisciplinary approaches within the Community Rehabilitation Team, Haringey for 3 days a week

In addition to other tasks the post holder will work closely with the team to work with  our 18 month group programme for persons leaving locked rehabilitation to ensure safe transition to living in the community.

The role will include working with individuals, care homes, families, and care teams to assist individuals in meeting occupational therapy goals, delivering groups and offering training to the supported living home staff to further enhance the support for service users.

The post holder will work with service users who have complex and substantial needs, often working with persons with dual diagnosis and coexisting conditions including physical health needs.

Having a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, 1983 (amended 2007) will be required as the post holder will support service users return to or adjust to new accommodation in the community following admission to hospital and with the aim of preventing hospital admissions.

Main duties of the job

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To take a lead role in delivery of the occupational therapy pathway for service users under the care of the community rehabilitation team.  2. To demonstrate an advanced, in-depth knowledge of theory and practice as relevant to profession in relation to adult mental health community settings based on evidence and research to inform  Assessment, Treatment and Evaluation of clinical interventions for this service. 3. To hold clinical responsibility within the team to carry out and assist with assessment and/or treatment for service users accessing occupational therapy.  4. To lead and be actively involved in the development of treatment pathways including a comprehensive group programme and training resources for supported living home staff.

  • To provide expert occupational therapy knowledge, advice and clinical support, verbally and in written communication to the multidisciplinary team and senior management. 6. To use clinical expertise to advice colleagues on dealing with clients with complex needs, or behaviours that challenge. 7. To effectively and accurately carry out Risk Assessments and be responsible for putting risk management plans into place in conjunction with all relevant parties. 8. To co-ordinate and attend relevant MDT assessments, Care planning and review meeting, and case conferences
