Job summary

Are you looking for the opportunity to develop your clinical skills by being involved in the development of a dynamic and changing Community Occupational Therapy Service?

Mid Yorkshire teaching NHS Trust, in partnership with Wakefield Council Adult Social Care, provides community-based assessments for Adults within the Wakefield District.

We are looking for a committed and motivated practitioner who wishes to develop their clinical skills within a community setting.

You must be able to demonstrate an in depth understanding of the needs of clients with a range of health and social issues that affect their daily living activities.

The occupational therapist will be working within a small team

This will be a full-time post of 37.5 hours a week. You will be based at the Civic centre at Castleford, whoever this will be subject to change soon.

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate the capacity to work independently but under the supervision of senior team members. You will receive clinical supervision / mentorship and a robust personal development plan to support and develop your practice.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be part of a team consisting of a manager band 7 occupational therapist, band 6/5 occupational therapists, alongside band 4 technical instructors.
  • Once inducted we offer the option of hybrid working on a 40 percent home working and 60 percent office based.
  • You will be responsible for moving and handling assessments/risk assessments, equipment and minor adaptation requests, and initial assessments for major adaptations.
  • To independently and effectively self manage a defined caseload within the community occupational therapy team using evidence based, client centered principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • There is a requirement to keep up to date records using electronic care systems.
  • To be responsible for the day to day supervision of junior staff and/or students within the team, as designated by the Occupational Therapy manager.
  • To contribute to the clinical and professional development of the Occupational Therapy service.
  • You will need to be able to work independently out in the community. It is essential that you have a full UK driving licence and use of a car.
