Job overview

Hull University Teaching Hospitals are seeking Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist to work within the Stroke ( Neurology) specialty.  This is a 9 month fixed term contract to cover Maternity leave.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a large busy acute teaching hospital which has defined links with Hull University and is itself a Major Trauma Centre. The post holders will work alongside colleagues to support the assessment or need across a range of clinical conditions which present within the Stroke (and neurology) service  with varying degrees of complexity.  As an occupational therapy you will have direct input into the assessment and treatment of patients, delivering evidence based interventions to facilitate recovery, promote well being and optimise independent functioning as far as reasonably possible in all areas of life.

We are seeking applicants who can adapt quickly to changing work environments, working well and dynamically within a team.  You will be expected to be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and build networks to enable appropriate partnerships with other agencies involved in patient care to both identify and address immediate and ongoing needs, for highly complex caseload.

Main duties of the job

The post would suit a  current Band 6 who  wishes to expand their experience in Stroke and Neurology or a band 5 Occupational therapist who feels ready for the challenge of a senior post within this clinical speciality.  The applicant should have recent UK experience and have completed foundation B5 rotations, including Stroke/ Neurology at B5 or B6 level.

The post holder will be self motivated and aspirational, be able to assess in an effective and timely manner within a rapid paced environment. Confidence in enabling patients in positive risk taking, personalised care, assessment of capacity, cognitive assessments,  manual handling, functional assessment and knowledge of the Stroke care pathways will be enhanced and nurtured within this role

Support will be provided to enhance operational management skills and the post holders will be supported to contribute to service planning, development and teaching. As a senior occupational therapist, the post holders will need to be a role model for their team and pride themselves on delivering high quality care, motivating their team to do the same
