Job overview

West London Forensic Services have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist. The post is based within forensic services, with opportunities to work across rehabilitation, acute, dependency and vocational areas. This role is ideal for a motivated Band 5 looking to progress or an experienced Band 6.

The successful applicant will develop and consolidate their Occupational Therapy skills within a supportive multidisciplinary team. Occupational Therapy is a valued part of the service, supporting patients to engage in meaningful activity and build skills for recovery and transition into the community.

Our patient group often presents with complex needs, including mental health conditions alongside physical health co-morbidities, acquired brain injuries, neurological conditions, and neurodiversity. The role involves contributing to assessments and interventions as part of a wider team.

We use the Vona du Toit Model of Creative Ability alongside a range of assessment tools, with full training and regular supervision provided. The role includes opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities, support junior staff, contribute to service development, and deputise when required.

We also offer a wide range of OT-led interventions and well-established vocational services to support recovery pathways.

Main duties of the job

  • Completing clinical assessments and producing high-quality reports.
  • Supporting the supervision and development of junior staff members, including contributing to teaching.
  • Managing a defined caseload, including assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment, using specialist skills to support patients with a range of complex needs.
  • Initiating and undertaking audits, implementing service improvements where appropriate, and understanding the role of audit within clinical governance.
  • Contributing to and leading service development projects, including audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Leading on meetings, including chairing, minute taking, reviewing effectiveness, and coordinating actions across the wider team.
  • Taking responsibility for a vocational area, ensuring appropriate risk management processes are in place.
  • Using ICT systems to develop clear, accessible and patient-centred intervention plans.
  • Supporting student placements throughout the year and contributing to their learning and development.
  • Managing a caseload of approximately 15–18 patients.
  • Delivering both group and one-to-one interventions.
  • Undertaking associated administrative duties and contributing to wider team responsibilities.

You will receive a structured induction, along with ongoing support, supervision, and guidance from senior Occupational Therapy staff, alongside access to strong CPD opportunities.
