Band 5 to 6 Developmental Role-  Acute Older Age Adult Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic Occupational Therapist to join Juniper Ward, an acute assessment and treatment ward for Older Adults with functional mental health disorders, based at Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford.

Juniper Ward is an 18-bedded inpatient ward with a highly experienced, supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team who are passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care to people who are acutely unwell.

Main duties of the job

This post is ideal for an Occupational Therapist with experience in mental health, who is passionate about supporting people during acute periods of illness.

The post holder will be responsible for completing high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions, both on an individual and group basis. You will demonstrate a sound understanding and practical use of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to inform clinical reasoning and intervention planning.

You will work closely with the wider Therapy Team, and key Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) members within the Acute Care Service.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions (individual and group) in line with occupational therapy pathways.
  • To communicate effectively with people who access services, their carers/supporters/family members, the multidisciplinary team, and external agencies as appropriate.
  • To contribute to the generic functioning of the ward team.
  • To contribute to occupational therapy student placements, including supervision and support.
  • To participate in service development, quality improvement initiatives and audits.
  • To take on the role of lead professional as required.
  • To provide support and supervision to others and demonstrate leadership within a busy clinical environment (as appropriate to band).
