An excellent opportunity has arisen and we are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our neuro oncology team for a 9 month secondment.

This role will involve working alongside the current Neuro-oncology MDT providing support to patients and their families with a neuro oncology diagnosis.

The Neuro Oncology service compromises of a dedicated MDT that offers a regional service to patients across the North East. We are a well-established team who strive to provide a high standard of clinical care.

You will gain a valuable insight into supporting patients and their families at diagnosis and throughout their central nervous system tumour pathway. You will develop the skills to support and coordinate the care of neuro-oncology tumour patients and their families.

This can be an emotionally challenging role which will require a resilient individual.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • plan, implement and evaluate care, offer specialist advice and support to patients and families from pre-diagnosis (where required), diagnosis, throughout treatment, and end of treatment up to five years.
  • Consult with patients, their family and the multi-professional team to undertake assessment and delivery of patient needs
  • Offer telephone support and advice for patients and their families in a non-urgent capacity.
  • Act as a clinical expert and professional resource to support education settings to care for neuro oncology patients so the patient can maximise their time in education where possible

The post holder will:

Have excellent communication skills will be essential to provide and receive complex, sensitive information to the patient and their families in a way in which they can understand.

  • You must have the ability to work independently
  • You will prioritise care delivery for a high number of patients and their families
  • You will need to have excellent clinical skills and standards

It is essential you can apply your knowledge and skill set to offer physical & psychological/ emotional aspects of care for this defined patient group.

You should also be able to use your initiative and have a consistent high standard of professionalism whilst maintaining staff and patient confidentiality.

The successful candidate will need to have a real drive to engage effectively within the multi-disciplinary team and other specialist teams
