A fantastic opportunity has opened for a new role within the Oncology Nurse Specialist Team, based at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Carlisle. A full time Melanoma and Uro- Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist role has been created to support patients receiving treatment under the umbrella of the Northern Centre for Cancer Care.
This post requires the applicant to have extensive post registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level within the required specialist area of practice.
The successful candidate will have a passion for oncology nursing and will be driven to make a difference in the lives of patients diagnosed with cancer. They will support patients along their individualised pathway through holistic needs assessment ensuring that personalised care is at the heart of what they do.
The new role lends itself to development and review of current practices and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a huge impact on the lives of patients affected by cancer.

The new role will allow the successful candidate to ensure that the current and newly created pathways are best suited to treating and supporting this group of patients. You will require excellent communication skills, with a clear drive and passion for oncology nursing support.
You will have a strong background of oncology nursing and ideally have administered systemic anti-cancer treatments in the past. You will have awareness of current treatment regimes for this group of patients and have the ability to be able to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Previous experience as a clinical nurse specialist or significant experience working with oncology patients is essential.
The successful candidate will be an advocate for their patients, providing support through formal clinic appointments and informal reviews. You will provide information and education explaining complex diagnosis, treatment regimes and will ensure that the patient is fully informed. The successful individual will provide and link and ensure that care is coordinated.
It is desirable that the successful candidate will hold qualifications in clinical skills and history taking as well as prescribing, although full training will be available.
This post requires the successful applicant to be self-motivated with excellent organizational skills, a strong team working ethic and evidence of continuous professional development.
