Job overview

To provide specialist practice to children and young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)/Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including Autism diagnostic outcome schedule(ADOS), school observations, Qb tests, workshops, supporting prescribers and multi-disciplinary neurodevelopmental assessments teams.  To provide advice to other staff on this area of specialist practice.  To work autonomously  and as a part of  team. To work within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the delivery of effective evidence based clinical practice within the specialism.

Main duties of the job

  • To support care plans by other staff, and take clinical responsibility for their delivery. • To work across professional and organisational boundaries to develop and sustain appropriate relationships to influence the mental health care delivery for children/young people and their families/carers. • To utilise highly developed body language, demonstrating engagement with the child/young person and family/carers. • To be able to communicate effectively in a group/workshop scenario. • To build collaborative relationships with service users and significant others. • To work in collaboration with other agencies involved in the care of the family. • To provide specialised advice and education in relation to the care of children/young people and families/carers. • To provide advice within own clinical area, and for other appropriate agencies, working across professional and educational boundaries. • To participate within the multi-disciplinary team, in engaging colleagues from other agencies. • To ensure attendance at, and appropriate and professional expression of relevant clinical opinions into multi-agency team discussions. • Develop and maintain relations with local, regional and national services, including Health, Education , Social Care, and the Voluntary sector. • To clinically supervise other clinical staff and students. • To supervise appropriate students, and to provide feedback as appropriate to the relevant parties

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work within the designated Team, according to the Team practices, ethos and responsibilities. • To support the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care plans by other staff, and take clinical responsibility for their delivery, where appropriate. • To work across professional and organisational boundaries to develop and sustain appropriate relationships, partnerships and networks to influence and improve the mental health, outcomes, and health care delivery for children/young people and their families/carers. • To work within the designated Team, according to the Team practices, ethos and responsibilities. • To utilise highly developed body language, demonstrating engagement with the child/young person and family/carers, and specific visual and auditory skill to observe behaviour, interactions and family dynamics. • To be able to communicate effectively in a group/workshop scenario, this may include up to 20 participants. • To build collaborative relationships with service users and significant others that will promote engagement in the therapeutic process. • To work in collaboration with other agencies involved in the care of the family, where appropriate. To be involved in referrals and transfer of care, where required. • To provide specialised advice and education in relation to the care of children/young people and families/carers. • To provide advice and consultation within own clinical area, and for other appropriate agencies, working across professional and educational boundaries, to promote high quality mental health care and wellbeing for children/young people and their families/carers. • To participate within the multi-disciplinary team, in engaging colleagues from other agencies to facilitate the development of appropriate, effective and comprehensive services. • To ensure attendance at, and appropriate and professional expression of relevant clinical opinions into multi-agency team discussions. • To attend local, regional and national training and service development meetings, as required and agreed with clinical supervisor/Operations Manager • Develop and maintain relations with local, regional and national services, including Health, Education , Social Care, and the Voluntary sector, to ensure that services are client centred. • To clinically supervise other clinical staff and students, both directly during client contact and indirectly through the process of clinical supervision • To supervise appropriate students, and to provide feedback as appropriate to the relevant parties To work in partnership with clients, colleagues and medical staff to fulfil the statutory/professional role.  To promote understanding of the needs of children with ADHD/ASD to other health professionals, staff groups, agencies and the general public. To use professional skills and knowledge to develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with children/young people and their families/carers, whilst developing and maintaining professional boundariesFor further information on the advertised role, please refer to the job description located under the Supporting Documents heading.
