We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Consultant and Approved Clinician in our Acute Inpatient Women’s Service. The service consists of 2 wards, each with 22 beds, (Ward 1 and Ward 5 Becklin Centre) that deliver high quality acute mental health care to women in Leeds. The postholder will act as Responsible Clinician on Ward 1 alongside a Consultant Psychiatrist taking on an equal caseload and will be a non-medical prescriber. This model is already successfully embedded in Ward 5 which enhances the multi-disciplinary clinical leadership of the ward and promotes a psychological and trauma-informed approach to care.

The post offers additional opportunities that reflect the core functions of a Nurse Consultant including professional leadership and consultancy, education training and development and a practice and service development, research and evaluation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Can provide clinical cover for the other Responsible Clinician on the ward in addition to other Responsible Clinician across the acute the service on occasions.
- To undertake the role of Approved Clinician for patients on a female acute admission ward
- Responsible for the care and treatment of mentally disordered people compulsorily detained under the Mental Health Act and those admitted to hospital on an informal basis.
- Responsible for the assessment of all levels of clinical risk within an evidence-based framework
- Responsible for undertaking mental health assessments incorporating biological, psychological, cultural and social perspectives
- Responsible for leading formulation, review and treatment within the context of the multi-disciplinary team
- Responsible for compiling and completing statutory documentation and providing written AC reports under the Mental Health Act
- Accountable for own professional practice in the delivery of highly specialist nursing care to clients with severe and enduring mental health conditions or learning disabilities
- To support the development and implementation of the Trust wide Nursing Strategy influencing the development of nursing education within the organisation and nationally via higher education institutions.
- Supporting the development, and delivery of training programmes within the Acute Inpatient Service that promotes the profession and evidence-based practice
- To provide clinical leadership in the continual development and provision of excellence within the Acute Inpatient Service.
- Leads on specific service development work and is engaged in the service clinical governance structure.
