Job overview

The role of a Trust NED is to support the Board of Directors in providing an independent view on the Trusts strategy, to oversee implementation of national strategies and regulatory compliance, and to work collaboratively with our Council of Governors. In addition, as a NED you will become a member of the committees of the Board.

Specific responsibilities of this Non-Executive Director role include the following:

  • Participation in the work of the Board of Directors and to contribute to the development of the Trusts strategy.
  • Ensuring that the highest standards of corporate and clinical governance are maintained.
  • Constructively challenge the performance of the Trust, with a specific focus on clinical governance frameworks used to improve quality of care for patients.
  • Engage regularly with the Council of Governors and ensure the Trust is accountable to its membership via the Council of Governors.
  • Prepare for, attend, and contribute to Board of Directors' meetings, Committees of the Board as agreed with the Chair, Council of Governors' meetings, and Board.

Essential criteria for the role includes:

  • Recent Board or senior level leadership experience gained in a large and complex organisation with experience as a member of a Board Committee.
  • Effective communication and engagement skills, including the ability to actively listen, promote discussion of views, welcome constructive challenge and be approachable.
  • A strong commitment to developing effective collaborative relationships with partners and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable commitment to equality, inclusion and reducing health and racial inequalities.
