We at South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) have exciting opportunities within our dynamic and innovative urgent care service which is driven by saving lives and ensuring our patients receive the care that they need.

We are looking to recruit reliable and enthusiastic Dental Nurses to join our motivated, friendly, and hardworking team of Clinicians based within our 3 sites:  Otterbourne,   Bicester and Milton Keynes to support the smooth running of our Dental Advisory Service and work on a flexible ad-hoc basis.

Main duties of the job

Working within this role you will carry out complex clinical telephone triage in a sensitive manner providing assessment, advice, and information in line with clinical pathways whilst utilising your knowledge, experience, and professional judgement, referring to other services where appropriate.

Essential Requirements:

  • GDC Dental Nurse registration
  • 3 years recent practical experience
  • Triage experience
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good level of computer literacy
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Must be flexible
  • Should be available to work a range of shifts between 7:00-22:00, weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Motivated towards further professional development
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance, and audit practices
  • Flexible working approach
  • IT qualifications
  • Call centre experience

Successful candidates will be required to complete a one-week fulltime training programme, covering internal systems, NHS pathways assessments and call centre mentoring, followed by ‘buddy’ shifts until safe to work solo. We offer continued support throughout this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work as an autonomous dental practitioner and provide high quality complex dental triage using knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and professional judgement supported by clinical templates and guidelines. To review incoming symptom based dental calls and information calls and telephone enquiries and assess for urgency and priority.

To provide dental advice supported by clinical templates/ clinical protocols and facilitate onward referral to other professionals if required.

To communicate clinical information verbally and via technical links with health economy partners to ensure continuity of care for the caller.

To work towards service delivery targets, clinical indicators, and national and locally negotiated targets.

To attend and actively participate in regular management meetings and work with the line manager to improve and/or consistently maintain performance.

To participate in performance review and coaching development plans.
