We are looking for an exceptional Neonatal Ward Manager to lead our dedicated neonatal team, combining clinical excellence, compassionate leadership, and a passion for improving outcomes for babies and their families.

You will provide strategic and operational leadership to our Level 2 Local Neonatal Unit,  ensuring the delivery of safe, high -quality family- centred care for premature and critically ill newborns, through quality improvements and initiatives.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a qualified in speciality neonatal nurse with experience at band 6 or above. You will have specialist clinical knowledge, communication and leadership skills and support the organisation in the delivery of the highest quality of care.

The post holder will manage all aspects of clinical standards and professional practice within the unit and will manage and coordinate staff budget resources and the environment. You will help shape the future of the service supporting the Matron, Deputy Head of Nursing and Head of Nursing .

The role will also require the individual to maintain clinical credibility. Shifts within the clinical rota, as agreed with the Matron, will provide opportunities to ensure clinical skills are maintained and offer visibility to the wider team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality care delivery of all patients in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards. The Ward Manager has a fundamental role in ensuring the caring environment is conducive to wellbeing and the effective delivery of budgetary, workforce and resource management.

  • To be a visible and accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives and staff. •    To be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality patient care. •    Lead by example and act as a positive role model to staff taking responsibility for own professional development. •    Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care. •    Actively contribute to and support agreed developments within the Division with focus for supporting clinical effectiveness and innovative practice. •    To manage roster allocation to provide safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce model and escalate as required. •    To contribute to a culture that recognises and works in partnership with patients and their families, involving them in all decisions •    To ensure that national and local policy and guidance are delivered and maintained. •    Facilitate and encourage a  culture which enables staff to challenge and report substandard practice. •    Contribute to the development of and support delivery of the Trust Quality Improvement Plan/Strategy. •    To support further development of  the Transitional Care Model •    To ensure an effective and sustainable relationship between Maternity and Neonates, that promotes joint working.
