Job overview

The post holder is a key leadership and management role and will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the organisation and the delivery of care for vulnerable women and those with complex social needs within maternity, including cases involving child protection and adult safeguarding concerns. This also includes women that may experience difficulties accessing care and support.

The post holder will also provide support, advice, safeguarding supervision and training for staff dealing with complex child protection issues and co-ordinate and lead appropriate provision of education and  training to the multi-disciplinary team.

To provide professional leadership to midwifery and other direct care staff within maternity.

Working as a visible, presence to whom women and families can turn to for advice, support and assistance.

To provide professional leadership and management to the vulnerabilities team.

Main duties of the job

Implement effective systems to identify pregnant vulnerable women and develop care pathways for vulnerable women from pregnancy through to the postnatal period, ensuring that all aspects of care in relation to Child  Protection issues are followed through.

Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence, acting as a professional role model by providing leadership and support within multidisciplinary and midwife teams.

Support the multi-disciplinary team to provide coordinated care for vulnerable women and those with complex social needs including child protection and safeguarding concerns.

Facilitate attendance by relevant clinicians or attend child safeguarding meetings on their behalf for maternity cases including pre-birth planning and child protection case conferences.

Coordinate multi-agency meetings to discuss specific safeguarding children/child protection cases.

Liaise regularly with the specialist teams, Doctor and Nurses for Child Protection and liaise with other professionals and external agencies involved with Child Protection issues.

Work with other specialist safeguarding/child protection professionals on planning and developing a strategy for safeguarding/child protection services that considers maternity services contribution ensuring this is  embedded in local guidelines and policies.
