The MRI service is a busy currently managing workforce pressures, requiring a hands-on and pragmatic leadership approach. While you will be supported by an experienced team, success in this role depends on your ability to take initiative, manage challenges, and influence positive change

You must be proactive, resilient, and accountable, with the ability to manage competing priorities and lead by example. This role suits individuals who take ownership, support their teams, and actively drive service improvement rather than maintain the status quo.

You will support the principal radiographer providing clinical, operational, and professional leadership across the MRI service. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Day-to-day operational management of MRI scanners and service delivery, ensuring safe, high-quality imaging.
  • Advanced clinical practice, independently managing complex examinations and supporting decision-making across the team.
  • Protocol development, optimisation, and standardisation to improve image quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
  • Workflow and capacity management, including patient flow, list utilisation, and prioritisation.
  • Equipment management, including liaison with manufacturers for maintenance, fault resolution, breakdown management, and service continuity.
  • Leadership and supervision of staff, including delegation, performance oversight, and promoting a positive team culture.
  • Training, mentoring, and competency development of Radiographers, students, and support staff.
  • Quality assurance, governance, and safety, including audit participation, incident management, and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Service improvement and change management, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and patient experience.

You will balance clinical duties with leadership responsibilities, maintaining a visible and supportive presence within the department.

You must be an experienced MRI Radiographer with strong clinical expertise and have some experience leading within a busy NHS environment.
