Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the motor neuron disease (MND) clinical research delivery locally and regionally.

We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, organised and experienced senior research nurse with excellent communication skills to help develop and maintain a growing portfolio of MND clinical trials, as well as to support the systems, procedures and teams associated with their delivery. The post is to start as soon as possible for [4 years] in the first instance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The MND Association Senior Research Nurse is an experienced Research Nurse with experience of working with patients and participants with MND.

The post holder will maintain an effective working relationship with the MND Association and NIHR Regional Research Delivery Networks by maintaining regular contact with the MND Association Lead Research Nurse and will be part of the Research Delivery Team here in Southampton, ensuring oversight of the MND clinical trials portfolio locally and managing overall recruitment to the portfolio within a regional, collaborative strategy.

Working in partnership with the MND Association Lead Research Nurse, UHS Senior Research Nurses and Matrons, the MND Association and NIHR Regional Research Delivery Networks, the Head of Nursing and R&D infrastructure, the post holder will be responsible for providing high-quality coordinated research care for individuals diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and their caregivers, guided by a Care & Research Centre/Network consultant neurologist with specialised expertise in MND.

The MND Association Senior Research Nurse will also be responsible for providing leadership, support, training, and education for the trials team, supported by the senior nursing and management teams and Principal Investigators. The post holder will also be responsible for directly managing patients on clinical trials.

The ideal candidate will be a Senior Research Nurse with significant experience in delivering interventional clinical research trials.

You will possess a great attention to detail and the ability to understand and relay complex information to colleagues and patients.

You will ideally have experience in delivering MND trials.

You will demonstrate excellent leadership skills with the ability to liaise, negotiate and influence. Ability to work in an open-plan office where there may be distractions.

This is an on-site role. Flexibility to accommodate participant visits and the study protocol's timing will be required.

Ability to travel to meetings locally, regionally and nationally is expected. The post holder should be willing to provide home visits or off-site visits to meet personalised research needs of people living with MND, as considered appropriate by the Provider and Research Sponsor.
