Job overview

Nuclear Medicine at Gloucestershire Hospitals covers the whole Trust, which includes the two large district general hospitals, Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

It is an exciting time for Molecular Radiotherapy as we have received the financial backing to be able to restructure and expand the therapy team. This is one of many new roles that we are currently recruiting. Within Nuclear Medicine Imaging, we have just installed a new gamma camera and are hoping to have another installed in the not-too-distant future.  We also provide Radiopharmaceuticals in conjunction with Pharmacy.

The job purpose is to provide Leadership for the Molecular Therapy and Imaging Teams with the Nuclear Medicine Department, ensuring the patients have safe and excellent experiences.

Additional working pattern details: Working day 7:30 to 15:30 Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

Provision of Clinical Services/Clinical Responsibilities

To provide Radiographer’s specialist advice on Molecular Therapy and Nuclear Medicine Imaging, including facilities, equipment and Radiopharmaceuticals.

In conjunction with the Nuclear Medicine Superintendent, to be responsible for managing the accurate and efficient use of, technical equipment to deliver safe nuclear medicine imaging, tests, and Molecular therapies.

Prepare procedures/protocols/competencies documentation for different Nuclear Medicine treatments and imaging

Work with Medical Physics to ensure there is maintenance of equipment and facilities

Supervision, participation in the treatment, discharge and imaging of Iodine-131 patients

Supervision and participation in the treatment of Radium-223  patients.

Be responsible for providing GFR tests. This includes: coordination of the service for timely delivery with the correct skill mix; supervision and participation; checking and reporting results

Process complex nuclear medicine scans.

  • To participate in scientific problem solving and troubleshooting problems. Participate in the Radiopharmacy Rota as part of Contingency Planning to maintain staff resilience across the department. Have good knowledge of the legislation associated with ionising radiation, including the IRR 17, IR(ME)R (Amended) 24, EPR 16 and the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009.
