Job overview

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, and motivated individual with a passion for supporting those with mental illness and learning disabilities to join our pharmacy team within LYPFT for a maternity cover.  The successful applicant will have excellent communication, organisational and time management skills who can work effectively as part of a team and independently.

There is opportunity to rotate throughout the team, including Community Mental Health Team services, where the post will likely start.

Applications are encouraged from any area in pharmacy, as there will be opportunities for the  development of clinical skills as well as the opportunity to undertake further training.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work closely with our clinical teams and Pharmacists in providing a high-quality medicines optimisation service to clinical areas within LYPFT.  Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Completion of medicines reconciliation
  • Ensuring timely supply of medicines
  • Delivering a patient focused medicines optimisation service to clinical areas.
  • Support the timely and smooth transfer of patient care at the point of discharge.
  • Participate in the training and supervision of new staff, trainees, and wider healthcare team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technician, you will join the pharmacy team in providing a medicines optimisation service across the Trust for our service users with mental illness and learning disabilities.

The primary responsibility for this post is to provide medicines management technical support to clinical areas but the role could also include other areas to support individuals’ professional development and service delivery.  The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of medicines optimisation, concentrating on improving patient outcomes from medication.

The post holder will participate in the training, supervision and assessment of new staff, pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technicians and Band 4/5 Pharmacy Technicians undergoing medicines optimisation training.

There is opportunity to rotate throughout the team, including Community Mental Health Team services, where the post potentially will commence.

This will involve working closely with the Community mental health team and the MDT. The role may require you to develop the service and supporting the team with tasks such as SOP and guideline writing. The role will include, contacting patients, managing depot supplies, managing queries from the wider team and offers a range of interests and exciting learning opportunities.
