An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary to join the Sleep Service within Respiratory Medicine at Trafford General Hospital. This is a full-time, Band 3 position supporting a fast-paced and exciting service. The role requires advanced audio typing skills, medical terminology proficiency, and the ability to manage a high workload effectively. You will provide essential secretarial and administrative support to consultants, fellows, and physiologists, ensuring smooth service delivery for both Trafford and Withington hospitals.

Main duties of the job

  • Secretarial & Administrative Support: Provide comprehensive secretarial services, including reviewing and typing of medical reports and letters, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Referral & Appointment Management: Process non-GP referrals and help coordinate the service's appointments alongside the waiting list managers.
  • Correspondence & Communication: Liaise with GPs, patients, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Clinic & Waiting List Coordination: Monitor and manage waiting lists in collaboration with the waiting list clerks to minimise delays in patient care.
  • Record Keeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with Data Protection and Caldicott guidelines.
  • Operational Support: Assist in arranging meetings, managing diaries, and supporting junior office staff where necessary.
  • Cross-Cover Support: Provide cover for colleagues as needed to ensure the continuity of service.

This role plays a critical part in the efficiency of the Sleep Service, ensuring timely patient care and operational excellence.
