Job overview

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for a highly motivated and well organised individual to join the team of Medical Secretaries within the Diabetes and Endocrinology team at York Hospital for a period of up to 12 months.

This varied secretarial role will support two Consultants with communication, administrative and secretarial tasks. The postholder will also provide key support to our patients by assisting with their queries, concerns and engaging with the wider clinical team and other key stakeholders.

Please note - if you would like your application to be considered for secondment, you must secure agreement from your line manager beforehand that you can be released to undertake the role.

Main duties of the job

Typing of clinics and general correspondence, complex diary management and provision of patient data.  Dealing with correspondence from patients, GPs and other sources, including the scheduling of appointments, to ensure referral to treatment targets are met.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, and relevant secretarial/admin experience. Together with proficient typing skills, particularly in audiotyping and have experience of digital dictation. Knowledge of medical terminology would be advantageous.

To be successful in the post you must be well organised, able to prioritise your own workload in a fast-paced environment and work independently to meet strict deadlines.
