Job overview

We are looking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated qualified Medical Photographer to join our dedicated team within the Medical Photography Department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a dynamic role that will involve travel across various hospital sites and partner institutions where our department provides services. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you'll be working in a range of clinical environments.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong foundation in photography—someone who holds a Degree in Photography or a BSc in Medical Illustration, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Photography.

The successful applicant will be:

  • A proactive and reliable team player, with the ability to work independently and manage their workload effectively.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism in all aspects of their work.
  • An excellent communicator, capable of liaising confidently with clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Able to interpret clinical photography requests accurately and provide appropriate professional and technical guidance when needed.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to a vital service that supports patient care, clinical documentation, education, and research.

Main duties of the job

As a Medical Photographer at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, you will carry out a diverse range of clinical photography across all the hospital sites we serve. Your work will include visiting wards, theatres and outpatient clinics to capture clinical images, as well as undertaking studio-based photography at our dedicated facility within the Radiology Department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

In addition to clinical photography, your responsibilities will include:

  • Uploading and post-processing images to meet clinical standards.
  • Ensuring accurate and secure maintenance of patient records.
  • Adhering strictly to departmental protocols and policies to uphold confidentiality and quality of care.

You’ll be working closely with a wide variety of patients and healthcare professionals, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to succeed in this role. A compassionate and professional approach is key, as is the ability to work sensitively in clinical environments.
